Ettore Sottsass Vase for Bitossi, 1955

An uncommon and early ceramic vase by Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi, comprising a red-clay vessel in a white glaze with brush-applied, polychrome geometric decoration. This particular decorative motif would become Sottsass’ branding/logo design for the 1957 XI Triennale and was also used for a carpet design (please refer to the last three images from a 1963 issue of the architecture and design journal, Zodiac). Signed to the underside with “Italy” and the vase model number/height. 1955.
