Indigenous American vessel in Atlantic white cedar burl, having a rolled lip and a single occlusion to side. A hefty and thoroughly utilitarian, rough-hewn bowl showing layers of gouge and rasp marks, a three-inch natural and stable fissure at rim, and with an even, honeyed patina. Abenaki tribe, Northeast Woodlands region (modern day Maine and southeastern Canada), early 19th century. Slightly out-of-round with diameter varying from 10 – 10.75 inches. An impressive object.
